Keyboard shortcuts
PowerPhotos tries to offer keyboard shortcuts in as many places as possible, to make it possible to navigate within your photo libraries without having to reach for the mouse or trackpad if you don’t want to. Here is a summary of available keyboard shortcuts.
Managing libraries
Create a new library | Command-N |
Add an existing library to the PowerPhotos library list | Command-Shift-A |
Remove a library from the PowerPhotos library list | Command-Shift-Delete |
Remove a library from PowerPhotos and move it to the trash | Command-Shift-Option-Delete |
Create a new library group | Command-Control-N |
Duplicate the selected library | Command-D |
Open the selected library in Photos | Command-Shift-O |
Open the selected library in a separate PowerPhotos window | Command-Option-O |
Reveal the selected library in the Finder | Command-R |
Managing albums/photos
Create a new album | Command-Shift-N |
Create a new folder | Command-Option-N |
Delete the selected albums or photos from the library | Command-delete |
Remove the selected photos from the selected album | Delete |
Toggle a photo’s favorite status | Period (.) |
Open Photos and reveal the selected photo in the Photos window | Command-Shift-P |
Album list
Move the selection up or down one row | Up/down arrow |
Select multiple albums going up or down | Shift + up/down arrow |
Expand the selected folder | Right arrow |
Expand the selected folder and all of its children recursively | Option + right arrow |
Collapse the selected folder | Left arrow |
Collapse the selected folder and all of its children recursively | Option + left arrow |
Add or remove a single album to the current selection | Command + click |
Add or remove a range of albums to the current selection | Shift + click |
Photo browser
Move the selection up/down/left/right | Arrow keys |
Scroll one page down | Page down (fn + right arrow) |
Scroll one page up | Page up (fn + left arrow) |
Scroll to the bottom of the photo browser | End (fn + down arrow) |
Scroll to the top of the photo browser | Home (fn + up arrow) |

Single photo viewer
Advance to the next/previous photo | Right/left arrows |
Advance to the next/previous photo | Two finger swipe right/left |
Zoom in/out on the photo | Pinch |
Pan around a zoomed in photo | Two finger drag/scroll wheel |
Dismiss the photo viewer and return to grid/list view | Double click, command + up arrow, space bar, or two finger swipe down |
Option + space bar | Play/pause a video or animated GIF |
Inspector
Move to the next metadata field (e.g. title, keywords, or caption). If the last field is currently selected, advance to the next photo and move to the first field | Tab |
Move to the previous metadata field. If the first field is currently selected, advance to the previous photo and move to the last field. | Shift-tab |
Advance to the next photo without changing the focused field | Option-tab |

Navigation
