PowerPhotos 2.7 released for compatibility with macOS Sequoia 15.2
With the release of macOS Sequoia 15.2 today, Apple made some changes that would cause PowerPhotos to be unable to read photo libraries other than the user’s system photo library. PowerPhotos has been updated to version 2.7, which provides compatibility with the new macOS 15.2 update, so you can view and copy photos between all your libraries with the new version. This is a free update for all PowerPhotos 2 users, and can be download either using the “Check For Updates” menu item within the app, or by downloading a fresh copy from our website.
Everything should function as before with the one notable exception that when copying photos or albums to a library other than the system library, PowerPhotos will no longer be able to preserve both the original photo and reversible edits for that photo like it could in earlier versions. When copying or merging into a non-system library, only the edited version of each photo will be copied across (or the unmodified original, if you select the “Copy Unmodified Original” option the PowerPhotos settings). I’ll be continuing to investigate options for supporting this again in the future, but for the time being if preserving reversible edits when copying is important for you, I would recommend either staying on macOS 15.1, or to temporarily switch your system library to the library you want to copy to via Photos settings window.
Update 12/17/2024: With the release of PowerPhotos 2.7.1, you can once again copy edits to other libraries.
For users still running PowerPhotos 1.x, there is no practical way to backport this work to that earlier version of PowerPhotos, so support for macOS 15.2 and later will not be coming to PowerPhotos 1.x. The current version PowerPhotos 1.9.12 will display non-system libraries as being blank, though they will still function normally when you open them in the Photos app. I’ll be posting a small update soon that will display a more helpful error message explaining the reason for that behavior. If you wish to continue using PowerPhotos with macOS 15.2, you’ll need to upgrade to PowerPhotos 2, which you can get a 50% upgrade discount by entering your PowerPhotos 1 license key at checkout.
